Casino Online Gambling Addiction
A Washington woman has pleaded guilty to stealing $275,000 from a former employer to pay for a casino online gambling addiction.
Georgia Marie Irwin, a 52 year- old former attorney, admitted to stealing $275,000 from EasyStreet Online Services, an internet service provider owned by a friend from college. Irwin worked for the company as a senior controller.
She was sentenced by Washington County Circuit Judge Marco A. Hernandez to 2 years in prison and ordered to pay back all of the money she stole from her former employer.
Irwin said that she lost all of the money to offshore casino online gambling sites.
According to Richard Bader, her old friend and former employer, he was forced to lay off employees, and to ask all of the company’s employees to take 10 percent pay cuts, because of the theft.
Irwin said that she remains addicted to casino online gambling. When the judge asked her if she has used a casino online gambling site since being arrested, she replied affirmatively.
The defendant could be released from prison after nine months and admitted to a rehabilitation program for people with gambling addictions.
